🔩 Square-Hole Mortising Drill for Precision Wood Joinery

This process is designed to create precise square or rectangular mortises in wood by combining rotational drilling with guided chiseling action. Using an internal auger and a hardened hollow chisel, the system removes material efficiently while shaping clean-sided openings for strong woodworking joints.

The auger bit cuts into the wood first, drawing chips upward through fluted channels while reducing resistance during drilling. Surrounding the auger, the square chisel shears the walls of the opening, forming straight edges and defined corners that conventional twist drills cannot produce.

During operation, the bit is mounted to a drill or mortising attachment where rotational force drives the auger while the outer chisel is guided into the workpiece under controlled pressure. This combined cutting action removes waste, maintains alignment, and produces accurately sized mortises for joinery applications.

The resulting cavity is commonly used for mortise-and-tenon joints, allowing strong mechanical connections without relying solely on fasteners or adhesives. Proper bit alignment, depth control, and tool stability are important for clean cuts and consistent joint quality.

Commonly used in furniture making, timber framing, cabinetry, and general woodworking, this method demonstrates the effective combination of drilling, chip extraction, and chisel cutting in producing durable precision joinery.
